Innovative Drafting & Design was founded in 2018 by Heather Hering-Brown, an entrepreneur and seasoned builder whose passion for constructing homes with insulated concrete forms (ICF) led her to seek out a better way to design. Recognizing a gap in the industry, she set out to create a drafting and design service that truly understood the ICF construction process—allowing for more efficient plans, faster revisions, and better outcomes for both clients and builders.
With hands-on experience and over two decades in the construction industry, Heather brought a unique, real-world perspective to design. Her entrepreneurial background and keen eye for efficiency—especially when it comes to full block ICF layout—became a driving force behind the company’s approach. Rising to the challenge, she has built a team of skilled professionals who share her vision of smarter, more sustainable building. This collaborative mindset has become the foundation of Innovative Drafting & Design, helping redefine what clients can expect from the design process.
As the company grew, so did its reputation for excellence—not only for technical expertise, but for a highly personalized, client-focused experience. Heather Hering-Brown
Founder | Innovative Drafting & Design
Heather Hering-Brown began her career in residential construction with a focus on remodels—reworking outdated, inefficient floor plans into spaces that better serve the way families live today. That early hands-on experience shaped her practical, problem-solving approach to design and laid the foundation for her work today.
Over the course of her career, Heather has been involved in more than 750 residential projects, ranging from remodels and additions to fully custom new construction. Her ability to see both the big picture and the smallest details allows her to create designs that are not only visually appealing, but highly functional and buildable.
She founded Innovative Drafting & Design in 2018, bringing that same real-world perspective into every project, with a strong focus on insulated concrete form (ICF) design and efficient construction practices. Today, she works closely with clients, builders, and engineers across the U.S. and Canada to deliver thoughtful, well-executed plans from concept to completion.
Heather is also actively involved in the building industry. She served as President of the BCASWI in 2020 and as IHBA President in 2024. She currently serves on multiple committees with the NAHB, including the Design and Custom Home Builders Committee's and is Vice Chair of the Design Education Subcommittee, helping shape educational programming for the International Builders’ Show and NAHB-sponsored initiatives.
Whitnee Bonnette
Lead Designer & Drafting Manager | Innovative Drafting & Design
Whitnee has been immersed in the construction industry from a young age, growing up on job sites alongside her parents and gaining hands-on experience in everything from demolition to design. That early exposure built a strong foundation and a natural understanding of how homes come together—both in the field and on paper.
Having grown up within her family’s construction businesses, Whitnee developed a deep appreciation for custom home design, as well as remodel and addition projects. She enjoys the challenge of taking an existing space or vision and transforming it into something that better fits how people live today—balancing functionality, creativity, and thoughtful design.
Today, Whitnee serves as the Drafting Manager and Lead Designer at Innovative Drafting & Design, where she oversees day-to-day operations and leads the design process for a wide range of residential projects. With a passion for intentional, well-executed design, she works closely with clients to create plans that not only meet their needs, but also feel cohesive, personal, and visually appealing.
Her attention to detail and commitment to the client experience play a key role in bringing each project to life—from initial concepts through final plans. Whitnee’s lifelong connection to construction, combined with her passion for design, continues to shape the personalized, detail-driven approach that defines Innovative Drafting & Design.
